Job Search Strategies for Ed Majors

  • Register on MOREAP,  the on-line education applicant placement program. This application is used by more than 150 schools districts in the state of Missouri and is the procedure you need to follow to apply for positions with these school districts.
  • Develop/write the perfect resume
    • Walk-in resume help is available Mondays and Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 P.M. and Tuesdays from 9:00 A.M.-Noon. in the Career Services Center, Ward Edwards 1200.
  • Start researching the type of school district you want to work for.
    • A great resource is the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education:
  • Start looking on HireRed for listed positions. Job opportunities are posted daily. Apply, forward resume, schedule interviews, and follow-up in the manner indicated on the listing.
  • Watch for other advertised "Education Interview" days coordinated during the semester that usually coincide with the scheduled on-campus student teacher meetings.
  • Network! Let as many people as possible know that you are looking for employment. Give them a resume and keep them posted on your progress and areas of interest.
  • Get in the classroom!
    • Start substitute teaching when possible.
    • Observe in as many districts as you can.
    • Volunteer to do whatever you can to get your foot in the door.
