Business Teachers prepare the youth of tomorrow to be business owners, teachers, civic leaders, accountants, doctors, lawyers and other exciting careers.
The Business Teacher Education (BTE) program provides students with the skills and certification requirements to teach business and marketing education in the public school system (grades 9-12, with a middle school option), career and technical school system, or in the corporate environment. This degree prepares students to teach business subjects in a variety of settings, including high school, post-secondary programs, career centers, adult evening schools, and federal job training partnership programs. Graduates have also found employment in private schools or in industry and business training programs.
Through dynamic instruction, hands-on experiences and personal attention from instructors, Business Teacher Education coursework encourages you to find your passion and reach beyond yourself to learn effective instructional strategies for helping your students learn. The BTE program is nationally accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), endorsed by the National Business Education Association, and meets certification requirements set by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
The BTE program at Central provides undergraduate, M.S., or MAT students, and AC or TAC teachers, the opportunity to become certified teachers in Missouri business education by completing the required courses and passing a state examination for business education. Students may also earn Missouri marketing certification by taking carefully selected elective courses and passing the state examination for marketing education.
The BTE program provides students with a blend of academic and business experiences including several field experiences in the classroom which prepares candidates to teach business and/or marketing classes. Students are encouraged to participate in PBL (FBLA) and/or DECA. The program includes business content, such as management, accounting, economics, marketing, personal finance, and software applications, along with educational pedagogy for teaching these subjects.
We are the largest public school Business Teacher Education program in Missouri and provide business education and marketing education certification courses for teachers seeking initial certification. An alternative certification program is another option for students who have business work experience and a bachelor’s degree in a related business area.
In addition to more than $4 million in merit-based scholarships and awards presented annually to UCM students by the university, there are several BTE specific scholarship opportunities.
