Education Specialist in Educational Technology

This entirely online advanced program is designed for students who have already earned their master’s degree in educational technology, education, or a related field. Founded in 2012 the program prepares teachers, educators, and others within education and training to enhance their understanding of incorporating technology into the educational environment and provide the tools and skills to find, utilize, and conduct research to advance their own use of educational technology. The EdS is the highest degree awarded by UCM.

(30 hrs minimum)

*Curriculum changes are implemented with each academic year. If you are in an older catalog it may look slightly different. Additionally, if you find that you would rather follow the current program instead of an older version we can substitute classes as needed. Contact your advisor if you are interested.

PSY 4520, INST 5900, and INST 6950 should be taken prior to INST 6960. INST 6920 should be taken in your final semester or as close as possible to the end. Other than these directives the rest of the courses can be taken in any order (assuming you follow any other prerequisites for courses chosen). Create your program of study using this Google Sheet.

The degree is entirely online assuming you choose online electives. The required INST courses are only offered online. Students can complete the degree from a distance. See the Course Schedules to the right for more details.

EdS students have a research component which includes writing a research paper (INST 6960). As an elective you also have an opportunity to complete a thesis (INST 6990) if you so choose. The research paper is a literature review of peer reviewed library resources, and the thesis is original research conducted by the student with findings that would be of interest to the development of the field.

The EdS program also includes the completion of a summative portfolio which you build as you go throughout the program and then submit in INST 6920.
