Now enjoying life as an angler, Dr. Gary L. Waisner had an outstanding record of teaching, scholarship and service to Central in a career that spanned more than 31 years.
Honors such as the Byler Distinguished Faculty Award and the Missouri Governor’s Exce3llence in Teaching Award are evidence of this professor emeritus of graphics’ dedication to the campus, its students and the education profession.
The long time educator came to the university in 1970 as an assistant professor of graphics and climbed the ranks to full professor. He prepared for that role through previous experiences in public education and positions at the University of Missouri-Columbia. His education included a bachelor’s degree at Central, as well as master’s and doctoral degrees at MU.
Dr. Waisner taught at least 15 different classes, most frequently dealing with drafting, including Introduction to Computer Aided Drafting and Computer Aided Drafting and Design, two courses he developed. He also coordinated student advisement for about 170 drafting majors, in addition to finding time for scholarly research activities, grant writing, and committee involvement at all levels.
