Known for his tireless promotion of the Adrian and Margaret Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies, creative initiatives and his pursuit of quality education, Dr. Paul Shaffer has retired as dean emeritus of business administration.
Dr. Shaffer dedicated more than 15 years of service to the university, most of it spent as business dean. He assumed that post in 1986 and contributed many outstanding accomplishments before returning to full-time teaching in 1999.
As dean, Shaffer’s achievements included: designing and implementing faculty-empowered governance; developing and initiating effective resource reallocations; preparing and initiating a faculty professional development program; developing and initiating international student and faculty exchanges; developing a statewide advisory board and departmental advisory councils; achieving AACSB accreditation for 10 years in 1995; and establishing a Center for Business and Economics Research. He was also instrumental in developing international internship programs and active in fund raising, including a role in helping the college to obtain a $2 million gift.
His education includes a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas, master’s degree from Wichita State University, and doctorate from the University of Oklahoma.
