Gifts of Securities (Stocks or Bonds)
Gifts of securities, such as stocks and bonds, are important sources of support for the University of Central Missouri Foundation. They can be made either electronically (DTC) or physically (mail).
Giving Stocks and Bonds Electronically
To transfer your stock to the UCM Foundation’s account at The Commerce Trust Company, complete our sample stock gift letter and send to your brokerage firm. To transfer a gift of bonds, download our bond gift sample letter. Both of these letters are Word documents.
Giving Securities by Mail
If the stock or bond certificate is held by individual(s) or if you choose to donate a physical certificate, the actual certificate can be mailed with a letter of instruction to deposit the certificate into the UCM Foundation’s account, FBO: UCMFDN-GIFTS #PA/69-0021-06-8 at The Commerce Trust Company. Mail your letter to The Commerce Trust Company, Attn: Amy Pieper, 922 Walnut St., Mail Stop TBMZ-1, Kansas City, MO 64106.
You will need to transfer ownership on the back of the certificate by writing the University of Central Missouri Foundation after the phrase “We hereby sell, assign and transfer to…” All persons listed on the front of the certificate as owners must sign to complete the transfer. All signature(s) must be medallion guaranteed, not notarized. Medallion signature guarantees are available at your bank or brokerage firm.
About Gifts of Securities (Stocks or Bonds)
The date of your gift is the date that the UCM Foundation receives the shares in its account. The value of the gift will be the average of the high and low prices on the day the gift is received. You will receive written confirmation of the value and date of your gift for income tax purposes.
