Incoming Freshman Student Scholarships

Students may apply for multiple scholarships. Most applications for the 2014-2015 academic year must be completed and submitted by March 1, 2014.  Be sure to check below for scholarships that have an application deadline other than March 1.

Name of Scholarship To apply, a student must:
Dr. Jose Z. & Mrs. Theresa R. Almaguer Family Scholarship
  • be accepted to the University of Central Missouri or be a current full-time undergraduate or graduate student at UCM
  • have a demonstrated interest in Mexican-American heritage, culture and/or community development;
  • maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0; graduate GPA of 3.25
  • demonstrate leadership in multi-cultural clubs and/or community projects;
  • demonstrate financial need;
  • if selected, must participate in the UCM Academic Enrichment class mentorship program.
  • This scholarship is not renewable; however, former recipients may reapply each year provided they continue to meet eligibility requirements;
  • The qualified recipient must be committed to working toward the enhancement of the Hispanic/Latino community by mentoring and encouraging the academic achievement of other Hispanic/Latino youth.
Alumni Legacy Scholarship
  • be a graduating high school senior or have earned a GED
  • be the child or step child or grandchild/ stepgrandchild of a UCM alumnus who has earned a two-year, four-year, masters, education specialist or cooperative doctorate degree at UCM
  • have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0
  • demonstrate leadership abilities in high school and community activities
  • possess high standards of character as evidenced by letters of recommendation
Clay J. and Oma C. Anderson Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student and be accepted to UCM
  • demonstrate financial need
  • be accepted for admission at UCM and shall be enrolled for fall semester
  • preference shall be given to a student, who, because of parents' income, does not qualify for federal financial assistance
ARAMARK Facility Services Employee Scholarship
  • be accepted to UCM
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
  • have a minimum overall high school cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • be a part-time employee of the UCM Physical Plant, or be the spouse or dependent child of a full-time employee of the UCM Physical Plant
Helen Monroe Bell Scholarship
  • be a graduating high school senior and be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a degree in elementary education
  • have a minimum overall cumulative high school GPA of 3.0
  • be a U.S. citizen
  • demonstrate financial need
  • demonstrate good character and high ethical standards
Lucy Bergman Memorial Scholarship in Theatre
  • be a graduating high school senior and be accepted to UCM
  • be or have been an active participant in theatre
  • demonstrate leadership and service
Beta Sigma Psi - Pi Chapter Alumni Scholarship
  • be accepted to UCM
  • have a religious affiliation with the Lutheran Church
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 (high school or college credit hours completed)
  • be a child of a Beta Sigma Psi – Pi Chapter alumnus (however, if no children of a Beta Sigma Psi – Pi Chapter alumnus apply or are deemed eligible, consideration shall be given to all other applicants meeting specified criteria).
Jack C. Bodenhamer Memorial Scholarship
  • rank in the upper one-third of the senior class a Wellington-Napoleon High School in Wellington, MO
  • demonstrate outstanding scholastic merit
  • demonstrate good citizenship through participation in high school and community activities
Laura Leigh Culp Botgat Memorial Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student that has been accepted to UCM
  • be a graduate of Warrensburg High School in Warrensburg, MO
  • plan to pursue a degree in teacher education, political science, modern language and/or international studies
  • demonstrate service to community and high school
  • preference shall be given to a student interested in studying abroad
Boisseau Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman and be accepted to UCM
  • be a permanent resident of Johnson County, MO (however, if no applicants from Johnson County, MO apply or are deemed eligible, consideration shall be given to other students)
  • demonstrate superior academic scholarship
  • demonstrate financial need
A. Ralph Boxell Eagle Scout Scholarship
  • be accepted to UCM
  • be a male student who has attained the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America
  • be a member of the Order of the Arrow and/or Mic-O-Say of the Boy Scouts of America
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability
  • have made significant contributions to his church and Boy Scout troop
  • have been actively engaged in activities of his church and Boy Scout troop
A. Ralph Boxell N0OHD Scholarship
  • be a graduating high school who has been accepted and plans to be a full-time student at UCM
  • hold a valid amateur radio license
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • preference shall be given to a student enrolled in an electronics and/or radio-related class
Paul E. Brattstrom Scholarship
  • be a graduating high school senior and be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a degree in elementary education
Wm. Jasper and Martha Ann Breshears Memorial Scholarship
  • be a graduating senior of a high school located in Hickory County, MO (however, if no students from Hickory County, MO apply or are deemed eligible, consideration shall be given to a graduating senior from a high school located in Benton County, MO)
  • be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a degree in teacher education
  • demonstrate good leadership, character and service
Shelby and Marjorie Brightwell Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student and be accepted to UCM
  • be (or will be) a graduate of a high school located in Independence, MO or the Jackson County, MO area
  • rank in the upper one-third of high school graduating class
  • plan to pursue a degree in kinesiology (programs include: athletic training, corporate fitness, exercise science, physical education-teaching, recreation, tourism)
  • demonstrate financial need
George and Evelyn Brucks Scholarship
  • be accepted to UCM or be a current undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • be a graduate of St.Mary's School in Glasgow, Missouri
Michael E. Bush Aviation Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student and be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a degree in aviation technology
  • be an active member of the Civil Air Patrol as a cadet that has passed the Mitchell Test (preference shall be given to cadets in the MO Wing of the Civil Air Patrol; second preference shall be given to cadets in the North Central Region of the Civil Air Patrol; third preference shall be given to cadets in the Civil Air Patrol)
  • preference shall be given to applicants demonstrating a desire to teach
Paul E. and Marjorie C. Carson Music Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student and be accepted to UCM
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of instrumental music
The Carnegians and Dale Carnegie Scholarship
  • be accepted to UCM
  • plan to be a full-time student
  • plan to pursue a degree in communication studies
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
  • demonstrate financial need
CenturyLink University of Central Missouri Scholarship (for incoming freshmen)
  • be a graduating high school senior and be accepted to UCM
  • reside within the CenturyLink service area
  • plan to pursue a major within the area(s) of education, science/environment, business/economics, marketing and/or math/computer science
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0
Sandra Harlan Cockriel Scholarship
  • be a graduating high school senior and be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a degree in teacher education (preference given to a student(s) planning to pursue a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences)
  • demonstrate good character, citizenship and outstanding academic achievement
  • recipients of the Sandra Harlan Cockriel Scholarship may re-apply each year for up to four (4) years (see application for details)
Angel Conant Inspirational Scholarship
  • be a graduating high school senior in good standing of Warrensburg High School in Warrensburg, MO
  • be accepted to UCM
  • have been a full-time band student in the Warrensburg High School band during junior and senior year
  • possess good work ethic and enthusiasm for involvement in the Warrensburg High School band program
  • have exhibited a level of motivation that inspired fellow band members
  • be willing to give of themselves for others

Mrs. Jean Goolsby Doyle and Cecilia Martin Elfrink Education Scholarship

  • be accepted to UCM
  • be a graduate of Crest Ridge High School in Centerview, MO
  • have a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and community service
  • demonstrate financial need

Don Essig Memorial Scholarship

  • be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a degree in music
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of instrumental music
  • be a member of the UCM Marching Band
Frank and Barbara Fendorf Scholarship in Music
  • be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a degree in music
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in the field of instrumental music
  • have been accepted as a member of the UCM band or orchestra
  • have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • have a primary performance instrument of brass, woodwind or percussion (secondary consideration shall be given to string performers)
Jeffrey Floyd Forensic Scholarship
  • be a graduating high school senior that has been accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a major or minor in communication studies
  • be an active participant in the forensics program in high school
  • demonstrate outstanding contribution, performance, scholarship and leadership in forensic activities in high school
Freedom Scholarship
  • be a high school senior student attending a high school located in the state of Missouri, Kansas City, MO or Kansas City, KS
  • be accepted to UCM
  • have a minimum high school GPA 2.75 on a 4.0 scale following the seventh semester of high school
  • be a first-generation college student (see application for details)
  • demonstrate leadership in multi-cultural clubs and/or community projects
  • demonstrate financial need
Gina Galetti Scholarship
  • be a graduating high school senior of North Kansas City High School, or, be a dependent child living with a firefighter who is a member of the Kansas City, MO Fire Department and who is a member of Local 421AFF (International Association of Firefighters)
  • be accepted to UCM
    demonstrate good character, leadership and service
  • be actively involved in high school and community activities
Ada M. Griffin Scholarship
  • be a graduating senior of a high school located in Bates County, MO
  • be accepted to UCM and plan to pursue a degree in teacher education
  • have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • have demonstrated leadership and service in the Bates County, MO community
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • demonstrate financial need
John and Fran Gruver Family Scholarship
  • be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing at UCM
  • demonstrate financial need
Mildred I. Harmon Scholarship
  • be a graduating high school senior and be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a major in computer science or electronics
  • have a minimum ACT composite score of 23
  • have completed three units of mathematics and/or computer science in high school
  • demonstrate outstanding scholarship, leadership and character
  • be a resident of Missouri (preference shall be given to students from the UCM 21 county catchment area)
Henry County Scholarship
  • be a graduating senior of a high school located in Henry County, MO
  • be accepted to UCM
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.8 at the time of high school graduation
  • have demonstrated leadership and service in the Henry County community and UCM community activities
  • demonstrate financial need
Jim and Alma Lee Hooker Scholarship
  • be a graduating senior of Maysville High School located in Maysville, MO
  • be accepted to UCM
  • be worthy, deserving and show promise of leadership and academic ability
  • demonstrate financial need
Martha L. Johnson Education Scholarship
  • be a  graduating senior of Odessa High School located in Odessa, MO
  • be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a degree in teacher education
  • rank in the upper 25% of high school graduating class
  • demonstrate dedication and leadership by holding membership in three (3) or more school, church or community organizations
  • demonstrate financial need
Thelma French Kappelman Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student and have been accepted to UCM
  • be a student with a handicap disability

KCP&L Scholarship

  • be a graduating senior of an accredited high school in the State of Missouri;
  • be accepted to the University of Central Missouri;
  • live in a home in which the parent or guardian is a customer of KCP&L;
  • demonstrate scholastic ability;
  • be in the top 25% of graduating high school class;
  • plan to complete an associate or bachelor degree;
  • demonstrate financial need.

Mary Anne Kennedy Scholarship in Mathematics
  • be a graduating high school senior and be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a degree in the field of mathematics and computer science
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability in one of the programs in the field of mathematics and computer science
Ruthe Boles Koenig Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student and be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Education degree with an emphasis in history
  • have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in all history classes taken
Aaron M. Kreeger Memorial Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student in good academic standing and be accepted to UCM
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
  • demonstrate an interest in bowling
  • Application Deadline: July 1
Lambda Chi Alpha - J.P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman male student and be accepted to UCM
  • be a prospective member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Lambda Pi Zeta Chapter
  • have a high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • have participated in at least one high school-sponsored competitive sport
  • have had a leadership role in at least one high school-sponsored student organization for at least one full academic year

Donald Linville Memorial Scholarship
  • be a graduate of Breckenridge High School in Breckenridge, MO or King City High School in King City, MO
  • be a member of the UCM Track and Field or Cross Country Team
  • be pursuing a degree in education
  • demonstrate financial need
Beulah McFarland Teacher Education Scholarship
  • be a graduating senior of Clinton High School in Clinton, MO and be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a degree in teacher education
  • show promise of leadership, service and a strong desire to become a teacher
Charles Morley Sportsmanship Scholarship
  • be a graduating senior of Warrensburg High School in Warrensburg, MO
  • be accepted to UCM
  • have participated in some type of sport during high school career
  • have displayed a high degree of sportsmanship to opponents and team members while participating in sports at Warrensburg High School
Corrinna Harte Nance Memorial Scholarship
  • be a graduate of Osceola High School in Osceola, MO (however, if no students from Osceola High School apply or are deemed eligible, consideration shall be given to graduates of a high school located in St. Clair County, MO)
  • plan to pursue a degree in teacher education and show promise of being an exemplary teacher
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
  • have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0
Margaret C. Palmer Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student and be accepted to UCM
  • be a graduate of Elsberry High School located in Elsberry, MO
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability
  • rank in the upper 40% of high school graduation class or have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.5
Panhellenic Go Greek Scholarship
  • be an incoming female freshman student and be accepted to UCM
  • have a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • register for sorority recruitment in the fall (see application for details)
  • preference shall be given to a student interested in joining a social sorority at UCM

  • be a graduating senior of Otterville High School in Otterville, MO (however, if no incoming freshman students from Otterville High School apply or are deemed eligible, consideration shall be given to currently enrolled students who are graduates of Otterville High School)
  • be accepted to UCM
  • demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and leadership

Phillips Family Scholarship

Ona Ada Tipton Steffen Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman female student and be accepted to UCM
  • be a resident of rural Missouri (however, if no applicants from rural Missouri apply or are deemed eligible, other applicants may be considered)
  • plan to pursue a degree in teacher education
  • demonstrate good character, leadership and service
  • demonstrate financial need
Steward Scholars Program
  • a student must be an incoming first-time, full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing and:

  • Have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale;

  • Be fully admitted as described on the Admissions website  http://www.ucmo.edu/undergrad/fresh/require/;
  • Have a declared major in Computer Information Systems;
  • Preference will be given to graduates of Clinton High School in Henry County, Missouri and or students of diversity; qualified applicants from other Missouri high schools may receive consideration;
  • Complete a Steward Scholars Program application, which includes the following:
  • Three (3) references
  • Detailed resume outlining work experience, extracurricular activities, community involvement and honors and awards
  • Personal statement (minimum 500 words) with career goals
  •  Agree to participate in either a study-abroad program or an international internship;
  • Final Selection will be determined through an interview process with the Scholars Selection Committee. 

Linda Holman Struchtemeyer Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student and be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a major in elementary education, special education, secondary education or industrial technology education (see application for details)
  • rank in the upper one-third of graduating senior class
  • have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • score a minimum of 18 on the ACT
  • demonstrate good citizenship through participation in high school activities
  • demonstrate outstanding scholarship, leadership and character
Taiwan Commemorative Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student and be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a major in industrial technology (see application for details)
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability
  • preference shall be given to students from Taiwan
Kenneth Wayne Thomason Aviation Opportunity Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student and be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a degree in aviation
  • demonstrate financial need
  • preference shall be given to incoming freshmen students
Ruth E. Tuley Scholarship
  • be a graduating senior of a high school located in Independence, MO
  • be accepted to UCM
University of Central Missouri FIRST Robotics Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student and accepted to UCM in any STEM or STEM Education related program
  • have participated on a FIRST Robotics Competition Team or a FIRST Tech Challenge Team
  • must maintain full time status throughout academic year of award
Zelma Fabra VanderLinden Opportunity Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student and be accepted to UCM
  • demonstrate financial need
Katherine H. Wilson Scholarship
  • be a graduating senior of a high school and be accepted to UCM
  • plan to pursue a degree in teacher education
  • have a GPA of 2.5 ona 4.0 scale
  • demonstrate financial need
  • have been a former patient at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO (see application for details)
Ellen Gross Wood Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student and be accepted to UCM
  • plan to be a full- or part-time student
  • demonstrate financial need
H. Patrick and B. Kay Woolley Scholarship in Biological Science
  • be accepted to UCM in good academic standing
  • plan to pursue a B.A., B.S., or B.S. in Education degree majoring in biology
  • be a resident of a county in the Greater Kansas City, Missouri metro area (Jackson, Clay, Platt, Cass)
  • demonstrate financial need
World War II Memorial Scholarship
  • be an incoming freshman student and be accepted to UCM
  • rank in the upper 15% of high school graduating class
  • be a citizen of the U.S.
  • be worthy, deserving and of good moral character
  • show promise of leadership and academic ability
