Bachelor of Science Degree

Study what you love. Learn the skills that you need! A degree in History allows you to learn about the wealth of human experience, diverse cultures, and world civilizations. But you will also acquire the research, writing, and presentation skills that companies want today. This degree will allow you to be flexible and adaptable in an era of rapidly changing technologies because we teach you how to think and communicate effectively. Unlike some technology-based majors, this deep learning will keep you resilient and adaptable when today’s technology becomes obsolete and you have to reconfigure your career.

Do you know that over 1/3 of Fortune 500 CEOs have liberal arts degrees like History? Steve Jobs, founder of Apple Computer, once said, “Technology alone is not enough. It’s technology married with the liberal arts, married with the humanities, that yields us the results that make our hearts sing.”

Why Choose History at UCM:

  • A Unique History Major: The Bachelor of Science degree in history allows you to combine complementary Areas with your history degree to expand your skillset to increase your marketability. These include Law, Business, Digital Media Production, Web Management, Criminal Justice, and Instructional Design. These Areas can be easily turned into a Minor or Double Major.
  • Internships: We have numerous regional history partners where you can intern in public history. These include the Truman Presidential Library and Museum, the National Archives in Kansas City, Wornall Majors House Museum, Whiteman Air Force Base, Knob Noster State Park, Arrow Rock Historical town, and others.
  • Technology: You can take history courses that incorporate innovative technology, that facilitates projects from creating your own historical documentaries to designing interactive, augmented reality historical exhibits.
