What to Prepare for Admission / Scholarship Auditions

PIANO

Bachelor of Music Performance:

  • 3 pieces from the standard classical literature, memorized.
  • Examples of difficulty level:
    any Bach Prelude & Fugue or set of movements from a Suite, any Mozart, Beethoven or Haydn Sonata; Chopin Nocturne, Scherzo etc.; Bartok Suite Op. 14; any Liebermann Nocturne, etc.

Bachelor of Music ­ Piano Pedagogy or Bachelor of Music Education:

  • 3 pieces from the standard classical literature, memorized
  • Example of difficulty level:
    any Bach Prelude & Fugue, or movement from a suite; single movement from any Mozart, Beethoven, or Haydn Sonata, Chopin Prelude, Waltzes, Nocturnes, etc.; Preludes by Gershwin, Muczynski, Kennan, etc.

Bachelor of Music ­ Music Technology or Bachelor of Arts:

  • 2 pieces from the standard classical literature.
  • Examples of difficulty level:
    any Bach Prelude (from the Preludes and Fugues), or Sinfonias or single movement of a Suite; single movement from any Mozart, Beethoven or Haydn Sonata; Chopin, Gershwin, Kabalevsky Preludes, etc.

Students who would like to be considered for a service award in piano accompanying should be prepared to sight read a short excerpt.

  • Example of difficulty level:
    the first few lines of Caro mio ben from 24 Italian Songs and Arias
