UCM First in State to Launch Alumni Advisor Network

Contact: Dalene Abner
WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Feb. 10, 2015) – The University of Central Missouri Alumni Association has become the first higher education organization in the state of Missouri to partner with Evisors to implement an online career-advising network that potentially can link 86,000 UCM alumni with 13,000 current students.

Launching the latest addition to their alumni and student engagement campaign, Red Connect, the UCM Alumni Association is encouraging alumni and students to register online to join the new Alumni Advisor Network and start connecting. The three-minute process is made easier by allowing alumni to import their LinkedIn profiles.

"Career advice and mentoring are the two primary areas our alumni and students have repeatedly told us they would like to have," said Traci Via, director of alumni and constituent relations. "Since we launched the network in January, 250 alumni have signed up, and that number continues to grow daily."

The Alumni Advisor Network uses Evisors, a career services platform that allows job seekers to access personal career coaching and webinars from advisors with relevant professional backgrounds. Once alumni connect with students through the network, they can give career advice, critique resumes and set up mock interviews. The Alumni Advisor Network is privacy-protected and does not share personal contact information. Phone consultations occur through conference numbers and written messages are routed through the system.

Via commented that UCM’s alumni comprise a powerful network, including thousands of people who worked their way to the top echelons in a variety of industries. "Those hard lessons are what will help our current students have an edge entering today’s job market.”

She noted, “We know this network has been successful at some of the nation’s largest universities. Overall, 77 percent of students getting help from this network said it directly contributed to their job offers. This is what the Alumni Advisor Network is perpetuating, and we are excited to witness the increase in student and alumni engagement.”
