Contact: Mike Greife
WARRENSBURG, MO (Sept. 20, 2011) – The University of Central Missouri’s Arthur F. McClure Archives and University Museum will offer a unique opportunity to learn more about heirlooms and historic items as they host the second annual “Ask a Curator Day” Saturday, Sept. 24.

Experts will be on hand to discuss participants’ objects from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Room 1470 of UCM’s James C. Kirkpatrick Library. While no appraisals, values or advice about sale of items will be offered, the experts will be glad to answer questions about the origin and age of an object, as well as the best methods of preserving items for future generations.

Among those sharing their expertise will be Jeffrey Yelton, UCM associate professor of anthropology, member of the Johnson County Historical Society and the Warrensburg Historic Preservation Commission, who will be available to evaluate archaeological and historical artifacts. Charles Machon, historical services coordinator and curator of the Missouri Military Museum in Jefferson City, will provide information about military items, and Amber Clifford, curator of collections at the McClure Archives and University Museum and textiles expert recognized by the Missouri State Archives, will offer information regarding textiles and ethnographic items. Vivian Richardson, assistant curator of the McClure Archives and University Museum, will be on hand to evaluate and offer information on photographs and paper items.

In the event further details are requested, the curators will provide referrals for additional information about an item.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information about Ask a Curator Day, contact the Arthur F. McClure Archives and University Museum at 660-543-4649.
