WARRENSBURG, MO (Aug. 27, 2010) – The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Central Missouri will host a benefit for the Fine and Performing Arts Fund and Department of Music as they present the Alumni Chorus Concert and Big Band Dance Saturday, Sept. 18.
Russ Coleman, UCM professor emeritus of music, will continue the tradition of leading a group of talented musicians as they provide Big Band era selections for dancing. Coleman will be joined by Conan Castle, professor emeritus of music, who will direct the Alumni Chorus. As a special treat, the internationally acclaimed KC Prime barbershop quartet also will perform.
The public is invited to attend the event, which begins with a reception at 5 p.m. in the Elliott Union atrium. After guests have been seated for dinner in the Elliott Union ballroom at 6 p.m., the Alumni Chorus will present a program consisting of “At the Round Earth’s Imagined Corners” by Williametta Spencer; “Flower of Beauty” by John Clements; “Oh! Susanna,” arranged by Shaw-Parker; “Try to Remember” from The Fantasticks, arranged by Steve Zegree; “World of Our Dreams” by Jeffrey Ames; and “Canticle of Praise” by John Ness Beck. KC Prime will perform after dinner, followed by the Big Band Dance.
Tickets for the event are available for $50 per person, or table sponsorships also are available for $400. Tickets may be reserved by contacting the Office of Alumni Relations at 660-543-8000 by Sept. 10.
