WARRENSBURG, MO (Aug 12, 2011) – The Business Innovation Institute at the University of Central Missouri will celebrate its 25th anniversary from 2-5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, with a reception in the Kitterman Room in the Elliott Union. A program will begin at 3 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
The Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education approved a proposal in 1986 to establish the Statewide Technology Development Center at UCM. The center contracted with the Missouri Small Business Development Center to also establish an SBDC office in Warrensburg, and the Center for Technology and Small Business Development was created in 1987.
The center’s mission was to provide a delivery system for technology and business counseling and training to statewide and regional small- and mid-size businesses. The center was funded to provide statewide technology transfer, applied business research and economic stimulus to advance Missouri-based industries, business and the economy. As it continues to pursue this mission, the center works closely and cooperatively with faculty, students and the community.
Technology Innovations and Applications and the Center for Technology and Small Business Development were merged in 2001 to form the Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies and Development. In July 2011 the Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies and Development changed its name to the Business Innovation Institute. Currently the Business Innovation Institute works with faculty across campus and more than 500 students participate annually to assist more than 150 businesses and entrepreneurs.
