WARRENSBURG, MO (Jan. 24, 2014) – Communication materials and initiatives created by University Relations staff in cooperation with other University of Central Missouri units captured four honors, including two Gold Awards, during a competition that included entries from colleges and universities within an eight-state region. Awards were announced Jan. 13 by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education during its Power Up! Conference in Kansas City.
The CASE Institutional Awards program is conducted annually in Mid-America District VI. UCM’s submissions were judged among 575 total entries submitted by public and private higher education institutions in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming.
“CASE competitions provide an opportunity to see some of the best creative work in higher education, with entries representing marketing and public relations efforts at institutions of all sizes. The entries are judged by our peers, so it’s very gratifying to receive four awards. We have a very talented staff, and their hard work is evident through this recognition,” said Robin Krause, director of marketing and promotion in the Office of University Relations.
UCM received all of its awards in the Communications and Marketing Programs Division. This included a Gold Award in the category for Best Use of Social Media “Institutional and Media Relations,” for the 2013 Tweet Chat with the President. University Relations worked with UCM President Charles Ambrose last February to create a two-hour-long event, in which the president responded to questions from students and other interested individuals via Twitter. Success of this event has prompted a second Tweet Chat planned for 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30.
The second Gold Award recognized the university’s Learning to a Degree Weekly Online Series of Feature Stories. Recognition was earned in the Independent School Web-Based or Electronic HTML Periodicals category. UCM’s series offers insightful information into an array of different programs, individuals and groups whose actions demonstrate the four supporting features of a UCM degree: engaged learning, worldly perspective, culture of service, and future-focused academics.
University Relations works with various campus academic units to create needed promotional and recruitment materials. The Department of Aviation Booklet captured a Silver Award for Excellence in Design - Books. UCM also received a Bronze Award for a Choose Red commercial, which aired in Kansas City during the fall. It was recognized in the Video Recruitment Features – Traditional Video DVD, CD or Film category.
CASE is a nonprofit association that includes public and private educational institutions. It serves professionals in the field of education advancement, and encompasses alumni relations, communications, marketing and development.
