WARRENSBURG, MO (Feb. 27, 2014) – The Central Missouri Police Academy at the University of Central Missouri has partnered with Midwest Police Consultants to offer a Field Training Officer Course April 1-3 at the UCM Summit Center, 850 N.W. Chipman Road, Lee’s Summit.
The POST-approved, 24-hour course will teach future field officers how to provide supervised field training for new recruits in any law enforcement discipline, with the overall goal of transitioning a recruit from an academy setting to an actual hands-on assignment.
The course includes training in instructional techniques, coaching, evaluation, remedial training and record keeping. Students also will be introduced to the history and purpose of field training, as well as training methodologies, techniques, counseling, the evaluation process, and the importance of documentation.
The course is designed for all sectors of law enforcement, including sworn personnel, corrections, telecommunication operators and special services or support personnel.
Instructor for the course will be Colin Comer, director of the Central Missouri Institute for Public Safety and the Central Missouri Police Academy at UCM. A veteran Missouri law enforcement professional, Comer has worked in law enforcement at the local, state and federal levels and has served as an adjunct instructor of criminal justice at Columbia College. He has been a law enforcement consultant since 2001, training hundreds of police officers and military service members in basic and advanced courses of study. He holds a master’s degree in criminal justice.
Preregistration is required. Enrollment fee is $299 per person if enrolled by March 24, and $329 per person after that date. Enrollment may be completed online at midwestpolice.com, or a registration form may obtained by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
