WARRENSBURG - 5/03/2006 - More than 1,000 new graduates are eligible to participate in UCM's 2006 commencement exercises Friday and Saturday, May 5-6 in the Multipurpose Building.

Graduate and Undergraduate Ceremonies Planned

The celebration includes the graduate commencement beginning at 7 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, the undergraduate ceremony for graduates of the Adrian and Margaret Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies and College of Education and Human Services is planned for 10 a.m. and the College of Applied Sciences and Technology and the College of Arts and Sciences at 2 p.m.

Honorary Doctorate, Distinguished Service Award Presented

Aaron Podolefsky, president of UCM, presents the commencement address at all three ceremonies, and makes special awards presentations. Honored guests include Darrel Stephens, a UCM alumnus who serves as police chief of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg, NC, Police Department, and Terry Rodenberg, former executive director of international programs at UCM who currently serves as vice chancellor and director of international affairs at East Carolina University, Greenville, NC. Stephens receives the honorary degree Doctor of Laws Friday night, and Rodenberg accepts the Distinguished Service Award Saturday morning.

Charno and Byler Award Recipients Recognized

Other honorees during Saturday morning and afternoon ceremonies include Jennifer Jonas, Jonesburg, and Steven Olsen, Blue Springs, recipients of the Charno Award, which is presented to the top male and female citizens of the graduating class.

Also honored will be Yvonne Johnson, professor of history and coordinator of the Women’s Studies program, and Sue Sundberg, professor of mathematics, recipients of the Byler Distinguished Faculty Award, the top honor given annually to UCM faculty members.
