UCM alumnus David Cook, who captured the title of "American Idol" last spring, will be the featured musical guest on "Saturday Night Live" at 10:30 p.m. CDT Saturday, Nov. 1.
Cook was named the winner of the Fox Network competition in May with more than 54 million votes from fans across the nation, including a strong following from his alma mater. A native of Blue Springs, MO, Cook received a bachelor's degree in graphic arts technology management from UCM in 2006.
After being named the "American Idol," he returned to his hometown for a sellout appearance at Kansas City's Sprint Center. His newest CD, "David Cook" will be available in mid-November.
Cook also has acknowledged the influence that his elementary school music teacher, Fredalyn Gentry, had on his career as a musician. Gentry also is a UCM alumnus.
Actor and director Ben Affleck will be guest host for the Nov. 1 broadcast, which can be seen on NBC.
