WARRENSBURG, MO (Dec. 5, 2011) – An award honoring Warrensburg resident Vance Delozier for his distinguished service to the University of Central Missouri and the conferring of degrees upon nearly 1,000 new graduates will highlight 2011 Fall Commencement exercises Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9-10 at the university. All activities take place in the Multipurpose Building and are open to the public.
Delozier will receive the Distinguished Service Award from UCM President Charles Ambrose during a ceremony at 2 p.m. that includes graduates of the College of Health, Science and Technology and the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Graduates of the College of Education, Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies and General Studies majors will be honored during the 10 a.m. ceremony Saturday. The School of Graduate and Extended Studies will conduct graduate commencement exercises beginning at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Distinguished Service Award was established by the UCM Board of Governors to recognize individuals who have rendered exemplary and extended service to their communities, the state, and sometimes, throughout the world. The recipients of this award must be people of such integrity, stature, and ability that the UCM faculty, staff, students and alumni take pride and are inspired by their recognition. Delozier exemplifies those characteristics.
A UCM alumnus and a lifelong Warrensburg resident, Delozier is a well-known businessman and dedicated community servant who has given his time and financial resources to benefit the university and its students. After graduating from Warrensburg High School, he attended UCM and majored in public relations. Before earning his bachelor’s degree in 1971, he served as president of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity for two years and was a charter member of Alpha Epsilon Rho national honor fraternity for radio and television. He is currently the broker/owner of Key Realty in Warrensburg, manager of Delozier Rentals and chief executive officer of D&H Media.
The owner of KWKJ-FM 98.5 The Bar and 1450 KOKO-AM Good Time Oldies radio stations, Delozier has served as the radio voice of Ronn McKay since 1969. Through his involvement with both stations, he also oversees the broadcast nucleus of the Central Sports Network, which regularly covers UCM Mules and Jennies athletic events.
Delozier has a strong record of community involvement, having served two separate terms as director of the Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce and many years as president of the Warrensburg Industrial Development Corporation Board of Directors. He has also served as president of the Midwest Missouri Board of Realtors and has a prestigious association with the Missouri Association of Realtors. For the past eight years, he has been a member of the association’s Honors Society, in which he chaired the Issues Mobilization Political Committee and co-chaired the Habitat Partnership for Gulf Coast Recovery, which raised $100,000 in 30 days.
Delozier’s untiring service to UCM has included membership in the Mule Train since 1975 and service as the organization’s president. He has been a member of numerous search committees for coaches and for the university mascot, and he was responsible for working with UCM alumnus and national radio personality Erich “Mancow” Muller, who donated the live mule mascot to the university. Delozier is a longtime member of the President’s Society and is the largest donor and supporter of the university’s Performing Arts Series. He provided funding for the purchase of equipment for the press box at Audrey J. Walton Stadium, helping to make it one of the premier facilities in the MIAA. In the five years he has served on the UCM Foundation Board of Directors, his leadership skills have been tapped as secretary, treasurer, and president. He was also a member of the university’s last presidential search committee.
