Contact: Jeff Murphy
WARRENSBURG, MO (Nov. 3, 2012) –  Joining in the celebration of National Distance Learning Week Nov. 5-9, the University of Central Missouri is planning informative and fun activities to demonstrate its commitment to online education, including a presidential proclamation signing, provost's forum, free webinars, daily trivia, and a an opportunity to win a Kindle Fire HD.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Distance Learning Week proclamation signing ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8. The event will take place in Ward Edwards, Room 2020, and include President Charles Ambrose and representatives of the administration and academic college deans. The Provost’s Forum on Best Practices and the Future of Online Learning at UCM follows. Hosted by Provost Deborah Curtis, provost and chief learning officer, it will feature a number of faculty members who teach online courses, and include discussion about standards for online classes and a recommendation for future direction of online programs at UCM.

Many events planned during Distance Learning Week are geared toward learning how to effectively use the university’s online tools. Visit schedule of events online.

One of the fun aspects of the week-long observance is a daily trivia question in relation to distance learning at UCM, which will be posted each morning. Those answering the question correctly will enter a drawing for a Kindle Fire HD at the end of the week. The Kindle winner will be announced in UCM Daily.
