Festival of Champions Comes to Walton Stadium Oct. 18

WARRENSBURG, MO (Oct. 16, 2008) – Young musicians representing 25 high schools will participate in the 2008 Festival of Champions as UCM hosts the annual marching band competition at Audrey J. Walton Stadium Saturday, Oct. 18.

Marching Bands

Preliminary marching band competition begins at 10:20 a.m. on Vernon Kennedy Field at Walton Stadium. Following a break for lunch from 11;50 a.m. to 12:50 p.m., competition resumes and ends with a performance by UCM’s Marching Mules and preliminary awards at 4:45 p.m. Finals competition begins at 6:30 p.m., with awards scheduled for approximately 9:30 p.m.

Indoor Drum Line and Guard

Indoor drum line competition begins at 8 a.m. in Garrison Gymnasium, followed by indoor guard competition, which begins at 10 a.m., also in Garrison Gymnasium.

Proceeds Benefit Scholarships, Shriner's Burn Center

Admission is $10 for the field competition and $5 if attending only the auxiliary and drum competitions. All proceeds will benefit the UCM Department of Music Scholarship Fund for the wind and percussion areas and the Shrine Burn Center Transportation Fund.

Schools registered to compete include Cole Camp, El Dorado Springs, Francis Howell Central, Fort Osage, Higginsville, Springfield Hillcrest, Springfield Kickapoo, Lee’s Summit, Lee’s Summit North, Lee’s Summit West, Leeton, Marshall, Mexico, Odessa, Olathe East, Olathe South, Springfield Parkview, Shawnee Missouri South, Shawnee Mission North, Warrensburg, Willard, William Chrisman and Woodward Academy.
