Hickerson Named Recipient of Foster-Inglish Prize

WARRENSBURG, MO (Sept. 8, 2011) – Recognized for her contributions to creative efforts that include the University of Central Missouri’s “Choose Red” promotional campaign, Heather Hickerson has received the 2011 Carl B Foster/John M. Inglish Prize for Outstanding Achievement and Service in Public Relations. Hickerson, a member of the University Relations staff, resides in Lee’s Summit.

The award was presented Sept. 6 by Robin Krause, director of marketing and promotions in the Office of University Relations. Established in 2000 by an endowment to the UCM Foundation, the award was created to honor achievement and service by members of the university’s public relations staff. John Inglish, director emeritus of public relations, created the endowment the year he retired in honor of his longtime friend and mentor, Carl Foster, who retired as UCM director emeritus of public relations in 1986 after 19 years of service. Inglish devoted more than 27 years to UCM’s public relations office before he retired.

Hickerson joined the university in July 2008 as a marketing writer/editor. In that capacity she creates copy for a number of marketing and promotional materials and collaborates with the Media Relations and News Bureau staff on various projects that also involve social media and writing support.

“We have an outstanding team of professionals in University Relations who have made tremendous contributions all year,” Krause said. “While it is difficult to choose just one person for the Foster/Inglish prize, I think what made Heather an excellent candidate was her involvement with the ‘Choose Red’ campaign. Her concepts for the various TV commercials and other types of media were creative and used the talents of several staff members. She was instrumental in the planning and conceptualization process, and worked closely with our excellent design team to ensure the vision for this integrative campaign was extended to many different venues.”

Hickerson is a Kansas native who graduated from Butler County Community College with an Associate of Science degree in May 2005. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Mass Communications degree from Kansas State University in 2005, and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in communication from UCM.

In addition to her work in University Relations, Hickerson donates her spare time to charitable causes, including serving on the marketing committee for the Susan G. Komen of Kansas City Race for the Cure. She is also involved in groups such as the Social Media Club of Kansas City and American Marketing Association.
