WARRENSBURG, MO (June 3, 2013) - The University of Central Missouri Foundation Board of Directors recently announced the appointment of 14 new directors as the organization expands to better meet newly outlined strategic initiatives.

“This past year we have reorganized and grown the Foundation Board of Directors to build upon our current expertise by recruiting specific skills identified through the strategic planning process,” said Jason Drummond, vice president for alumni relations and development and foundation executive director. “By expanding the size, we were able to complement the current board by adding industry experts with specific capabilities.”

The new board members, who begin their term July 1, are:

The board expansion comes at a high point for the foundation. It currently is managing more than $40 million in assets, the highest since its founding in 1979. Recently the UCM Foundation’s five-year annualized rate of return placed it in the top seven percent nationally among the largest and most prominent public and private higher education organizations in the nation, according to the 2012 NACUBO-Commonfund Study of Endowments.

As part of the process, the board also has developed and adopted a six-year strategic plan, establishing goals for the foundation’s fundraising and operations.

“The implementation of the strategic plan will allow us to build on all the success we have achieved so far and really reach for some ambitious goals in the future,” said Drummond.

Drummond noted that in line with the strategic plan, the foundation has implemented two new initiatives in recent months. First, the board set aside $500,000 to establish a student-managed investment fund so that upper level undergraduate and graduate level business students can gain real investment management experience. Second, the board established the Foundation Opportunity Grant program to provide grants to support staff or faculty on projects that directly enhance the learning environment.

“Both of these initiatives, along with an increased scholarship payout rate from the endowment, shows our commitment to supporting the students and the overall mission of the university in every way we can,” Drummond said. “We use all our effort and creativity to ensure that every student has a chance to achieve the dream of earning a college degree.”
