WARRENSBURG, MO (March 31, 2011) – The University of Central Missouri’s Gallery of Art and Design is currently hosting two exhibitions in all three of the gallery’s exhibit areas and in the halls of the Art Center.

The 43rd annual Citation Awards Exhibition, a juried exhibition open to art majors and minors in the Department of Art and Design, is on view in the Main and Outer galleries. The exhibition distributes more than 30 awards and scholarships of achievement funded by the Department of Art & Design, UCM Foundation, and Mid-Missouri Artists group. Individual scholarships and awards are determined by the department’s scholarship committee and outside juror Cindy Tower, a St. Louis and New York based painter.

An awards reception is planned for Wednesday, April 6, from 3:30 p.m.-5 p.m., in the UCM Gallery of Art and Design. The exhibition will run through Friday, April 8.

Also opening March 30 in Gallery 115 and in the halls of the Art Center is the annual High School Art Exhibition, a juried exhibit of work by high school art students within a 100-mile radius of UCM. An annual recruitment event for the Department of Art and Design, the exhibition coincides with the Department of Art and Design annual Open House and Art Contest April 7. This year, more than 350 high school students and their teachers will attend the competition and visit day. In addition, more than 600 pieces of art from 30 schools will be judged for the competitive exhibition.

More than 500 students, family, friends and teachers regularly attend the exhibition opening reception scheduled for 1-3 p.m. Saturday, April 2 in the Art Center.

The UCM Gallery of Art and Design is open to the public, free of charge, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Groups are welcome.
