WARRENSBURG, MO (Aug. 27, 2010) – While costumed characters, a dance performance and other special attractions continue to be added to the annual Get the Red Out celebration Saturday, Sept. 11, the deadline for organizations wanting to secure vendor space is quickly approaching.
Get the Red Out is an annual family fun event that brings members of the University of Central Missouri and the local community together to show their campus spirit. The special morning of free activities is planned from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on South Holden Street, west of the Elliott Union.
Russ Bloom, UCM director of publishing and promotions, said plenty of booth space remains for businesses wanting to share information about their products and services. He also encourages non-profit organizations to get involved by sponsoring informational booths or providing food and drink items as a fundraiser. The deadline for reserving booth space is 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3. Any business or organization wanting to sponsor a booth can do so by contacting Bloom at 660-543-4484, by completing reservation forms available at the Greater Warrensburg Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center, 100 S. Holden St.
Recently added to this year’s celebration are appearances by Clifford the Big Red Dog and Curious George, made possible by KMOS-TV, a performance by Center Stage Academy of the Performing Arts, and a visit by “Star Wars” characters. Entertainment also includes music provided by KTBG 90.9 The Bridge, and kids can enjoy inflatable games and hoop shooting with Mules and Jennies basketball players.
Get the Red Out takes place prior to the Mules’ televised home football opener against the Emporia State University Hornets beginning at 2:20 p.m. at Audrey J. Walton Stadium. Jennies volleyball fans have an opportunity to see the defending MIAA champions in action during the Peggy Martin Challenge, presented by Comfort Inn. The Jennies take on Edinboro University at 12:15 p.m. and University of Indianapolis at 4:45 p.m. in the Multipurpose Building. Jennies soccer fans also will enjoy a home match between UCM and Southwest Baptist University at 7 p.m. at the South Recreation Complex.
