Deborah Curtis, provost-chief learning officer, made the announcement today, noting, “We are very pleased that Dr. Godard has accepted this important position. The Office of Enrollment Management supports the university’s goals of admitting, retaining, and graduating qualified students. Among his many responsibilities as vice provost, Godard will supervise the directors of the Offices of Admissions, Student Financial Assistance, and Registrar to ensure the university delivers quality student services and meets its enrollment targets.

Godard said he looks forward to the “opportunity to serve in this new leadership role, and work directly with the provost and the university president to continue the momentum that has already been established within Enrollment Management.” He added, “I’m excited to continue to serve UCM and to take on the challenges and opportunities that will come with this new position.”

As department chair, Godard currently oversees undergraduate programs and faculty members in athletic training, physical education pedagogy, exercise science, corporate fitness, pre-physical therapy, community health, health-social science, and dietetics programs within the College of Health, Science, and Technology. He also oversees graduate programs related to exercise science, physical education, and sport management within the college. In addition to his role as chair, Godard is a tenured faculty member with teaching responsibilities that have included upper-level undergraduate and graduate-level courses in the exercise science undergraduate major and kinesiology graduate major.

Prior to joining UCM, Godard worked for Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill., where he held faculty positions as assistant professor and associate professor of exercise physiology from August 2006 to July 2012.  His professional education experience also includes service at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, where he was a faculty associate at the Gerontology Center, as well as director of the Applied Physiology Laboratory and assistant professor of exercise physiology, and adjunct faculty member between June 2002 and May 2006. Additional service in higher education includes work at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind.; University of Southern Maine, Gorham; and University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City.

He has developed skills as a leader and in strategic planning, not only through his work in higher education, but through his roles in a number of professional organizations. This includes service as president-elect, president, and past-president for Central States American College of Sports Medicine, and president and executive team member of the Midwest American College of Sports Medicine, where he was a member of the board.

Godard earned his doctorate in human bioenergetics at Ball State University; master’s degree in exercise physiology at Adelphi University, Garden City, N.Y.; and bachelor’s degree in exercise science at Castleton State College in Castleton, Vt.
