Mules and Jennies Fans Invited to "Get the Red Out!"

Contact: Jeff Murphy
WARRENSBURG, MO (July 28, 2010) – Before cheering for University of Central Missouri Mules and Jennies athletic teams Sept. 11, students, alumni and area residents can enjoy food, games, entertainment and more at the annual Get the Red Out street fair.

The event, hosted by UCM and the Greater Warrensburg Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center, will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on South Holden Street, west of the university’s Elliott Union.

Becoming a fall tradition, Get the Red Out was attended by nearly 4,000 people last year. It is an opportunity for UCM supporters to show their campus spirit and enjoy a morning of special activities geared to people of all ages. The celebration will provide an opportunity for participants to meet the university’s new president, Charles Ambrose, and his family. It will also include activities such as entertainment sponsored by UCM’s Office of Broadcasting Services, as well as games such as a hoop shooting contest with Mules and Jennies basketball players, inflatables for children, food items, and informational booths.  The event is free and open to the public.

Participants are encouraged to stay after the street fair and show their UCM spirit at Mules and Jennies athletic events. The Mules will battle the Emporia State University Hornets in the football home opener at 1:30 p.m. in Audrey J. Walton Stadium. The game will mark the first home contest under new Head Coach Jim Svoboda.  Jennies volleyball fans have an opportunity to enjoy the defending MIAA champions in action during the Peggy Martin Challenge, presented by Comfort Inn. The Jennies take on Edinboro University at 12:15 p.m. and the University of Indianapolis at 4:45 p.m. in the Multipurpose Building. Tickets are available for purchase at both events.

In addition to an array of fun activities, Get the Red Out is a great way for businesses, non-profit groups, and student organizations to reach out to members of the campus and local community. Those who want to share information about their products, services and projects, or simply keep people informed about their organizations, are encouraged to sponsor a booth. Individuals who want to reserve booth space should do so as soon as possible. Registration forms are available at the Chamber of Commerce, 100 S. Holden St., or via the chamber’s Web site at Registration forms can also be obtained at the UCM Office of Publishing and Promotions, located in the General Services Building, 116 W. South St., Room 103, or in the university’s Office of Campus Activities in Elliott Union, Room 217.
