WARRENSBURG, MO (Jan. 5, 2017) – After serving as interim director of the Office of Graduate and International Student Services (GISS) at the University of Central Missouri, Shellie Hewitt has the opportunity to continue her leadership role on more permanent basis. Mike Godard, vice provost for Enrollment Management, recently announced Hewitt’s appointment as director, with her new responsibilities becoming effective Jan 1, 2017.
As director of Graduate and International Student Services, Hewitt’s many duties include overseeing units that serve graduate and international students; providing strategic direction for admissions and student services for these units; and engaging in development and promoting creative ideas that enable processes and procedures to be more productive, efficient and student focused. Her position also entails planning, initiating, facilitating, leading and evaluating a wide range of student services and enrollment management which contribute directly or indirectly to academic successes, in addition to responsibilities for establishing and communicating the vision and direction for graduate and international admissions and services within the university’s strategic plan.
“Shellie has served as interim director of GISS since Nov. 1 and has done an excellent job leading this office and instituting enhanced customer service initiatives. I have the utmost confidence in her ability to lead the Office of Graduate and International Student Services,” Godard said. “Shellie’s unwavering pursuit to better serve our students and to partner with our academic units across campus to recruit and yield qualified students to their respective programs is a tremendous asset for UCM.”
Hewitt joined UCM in October 2008 as systems coordinator for Graduate Studies, where she served as the training manager for The Graduate School, and was a project leader within the school for all technology-related projects. From July 2014 to July 2016, she served as assistant director for The Graduate School and International Admissions, with duties that included managing the daily operations of the Graduate Studies and International Admissions office to include support staff and systems. She also served as assistant director of Graduate Education and Research from July through October 2016.
Hewitt is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis through a cooperative program between UCM and the University of Missouri-Columbia. She also has worked toward an Education Specialist in Human Services/Education Technology degree at UCM; earned a Master of Arts in Management and Leadership degree from Webster University; Bachelor of Science in Management/Computer Information Systems degree from Park University; and an Associate of Arts in Information Technology degree from State Fair Community College.
