WARRENSBURG - 11/15/2006 - Catch the spirit of the season as UCM hosts the third annual Holiday and the Arts Tuesday, Dec. 5 in the Elliott Union. The event coincides with the Department of Theatre's opening night mainstage production of Spinning Into Butter.
Holiday Market Offers Gift Ideas
Although plans are still being finalized, the schedule includes an array of activities that are free and open to the general public. Anyone looking for gift ideas may want to stop by the Holiday Market from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Sandra Temple Elliott Ballroom. It features crafts and homemade items and services by students, faculty and staff. Register for booth space by Nov. 22 by contacting Teresa Huffman in Meeting and Conference Services, 660-543-4342.

All will be available for photos. Earlier in the day, student volunteers plan to conduct a story time for children of UCM students and employees from noon to 1 p.m., and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. made-for-TV holiday movies will be shown. Both activities take place in the atrium.

Help Provided for Local Agencies
Giving back to the community, the university is also sponsoring a Holiday Giving Tree. According to Kristie Brinkley, coordinator of volunteer and non-traditional student services, ornaments with the names of local agencies and their special needs will adorn this colorful tree. Anyone who wants to assist an agency can call 660-543-4007 prior to Dec. 5 to receive an ornament with the agency's name and needs.
Student Groups Will Collect Food for Those in Need
On cooperation with the local Christmas Store, campus student groups will collect meals for area residents in need and deliver them to a sleigh that will be stationed at the Elliott Union Mall during Holiday and the Arts festivities. A student window and display case decorating contest is also planned in the Elliott Union in conjunction with Holiday and the Arts.
