Oak Grove and High Ridge Students Attending UCM Receive Prestigious Charno Awards Celebrating Their Accomplishments

Qualities that included outstanding academic achievements and service to the University of Central Missouri community contributed to the selection of two individuals who received the most prestigious honor presented to UCM students, the Charno Award. The award recipients were announced on April 11 during the 84th annual Who’s Who recognition ceremony in the Elliott Student Union.

UCM Faculty Instrumental in Conducting Seminar Teaching Educators How to Document Lives of African American Civil War Veterans

An opportunity made possible by collaborative efforts that include the University of Central Missouri, 20 educators who teach grades 7-12 at the area surrounding Fort Scott National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kansas participated in a professional development seminar on April 4 which enabled them to uncover information to document the life stories of African American Civil War veterans who are interred at the cemetery.

UCM Theatre and Dance and UCM Music Premiere Duke Ellington's 'Sacred Concert' April 18-21

University of Central Missouri Theatre and Dance and UCM Music premiere Duke Ellington’s “Sacred Concert” at the James L. Highlander Theatre at 7:30 p.m. April 18-20 and at 2 p.m. April 21. Tickets to the event are available now, and are free to students with valid UCM ID and to active duty military, veterans, and military families with military ID presented at the Box Office. The matinee on April 21 is a pay-what-you-can event.

Students Take Second Place at Sales Competition Hosted by KU

Following up its first place finish the past two years, the University of Central Missouri sales team in the Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies was edged out by the University of Georgia and took second place in the 2024 King’s Hawaiian Sales Competition. This competitive event was hosted by the University of Kansas School of Business April 5-6.

Jerry Hughes to be Inducted into MIAA Hall of Fame

Former longtime University of Central Missouri Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, the late Jerry Hughes, will be posthumously inducted into the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Hall of Fame as part of the 2024 enshrinement class, the conference office announced Thursday, April 4.

Missouri Safety Center Receives Subaward to Help Develop Virtual De-Escalation Training Through Active Learning for Police Organizations

The University of Central Missouri has been included as a subaward recipient of the De-Escalation Training through Active Learning (DeTAL) Assessment and Research Center through Western Illinois University’s (WIU) Psychology Department. The cooperative agreement is through the United States Department of Justice COPS Office for the development of this cutting-edge virtual training center. The subaward of approximately $288,000 will be administered by the Missouri Safety Center at UCM.

The University of Central Missouri (UCM) Division of Theatre and Dance presents Senior Showcase 2024 on 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 5, at the James L. Highlander Theatre and at 7 p.m. Monday, April 22, on the Jerome Stage at the Unicorn Theatre in Kansas City, Missouri. Admission to both events is free. Doors open a half hour before each show for audiences to view performer headshots and resumes.

Among Many Actions, UCM Governing Board Sets Tuition, Room and Board, Other Fees for FY 2025

In its March plenary session, the University of Central Missouri Board of Governors approved increases in student instructional tuition and general fees for academic year 2025 that were below the national rate of inflation. These were among many actions taken during the meeting, including honoring three members of the UCM community.

Best Names Crowley Interim Provost After Bridgmon Assumes Post in South Carolina

During the Spring General Faculty Meeting meeting today, University of Central Missouri President Roger Best named university academic leader Tim Crowley, DMA, interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Crowley currently serves as Vice Provost for Academic Programs and Dean of Graduate Studies and Research and begins this interim service on July 1. He will continue to maintain his role as the university’s liaison with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).
