Telly Awards Recognize KMOS-TV's Excellence in Programming

WARRENSBURG, MO (Nov. 14, 2008) – KMOS-TV, UCM's public broadcasting station, recently received four bronze Telly Awards in recognition of excellence in programming.

Show-Me Ag

An episode of “Show Me Ag” broadcast May 21, 2006, featuring Elic and Karen Riley of Elmo, Mo., and their use of a wind turbine in generating power, was recognized. Those receiving awards were Don Peterson, director of broadcasting services; Dorothy McGrath, manager of television and community programs; Kyle Vickers, program host; and Roy Millen, production coordinator.

Veterans History Project

Also receiving an award was KMOS-TV’s Veterans History Project, local programming produced to air in conjunction with the PBS broadcast of Ken Burns’ documentary “The War” during June, 2007. KMOS-TV staff members earning awards were Peterson and Millen; Christy Mesar, promotion producer; and Alden Miller, videographer. Also receiving awards were veterans Dale Carder, UCM associate vice president for University Advancement; McGrath, Rosemary Olas, John Long, Duard “Putt” Swope, Andy Avery, and Byron Johnson; Maritiza Gonzalez, the wife of a veteran; and James Sales, the son of a veteran.

Jerry Adams' Outdoors

An Oct. 10, 2006, episode of “Jerry Adams’ Outdoors,” produced by KMOS-TV, received a Telly Award. The program featured U.S. Air Force Sgt. John Benson as a guest with Adams fishing for stripers on Beaver Lake in Arkansas. Receiving awards were Peterson, McGrath, Adams, Mesar, Millen, Gonzalez and Ron Bigford, videographer.

Jerry Adams' "Kiss the Fish" Promotion

Receiving an award for editing was the “Kiss the Fish” promotion in conjunction with “Jerry Adams’ Outdoors,” aired in May, 2006. Awards were presented to Peterson, McGrath and Mesar.

 "KMOS-TV is proud to accept these awards as recognition of the quality programming we consistently provide for more than 1.3 million viewers in our 33-county service area in central Missouri," Peterson said. "It simply reinforces what we at KMOS-TV and our viewers have known for a long time – that our broadcast personnel are among the best in the nation.”

The Telly Awards honor outstanding local, regional and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions. Since 1978 the mission of the Telly Awards has been to strengthen the visual arts community by inspiring, promoting and supporting creativity.
