WARRENSBURG, MO (April 15, 2008) – As fundraising efforts continue to gain momentum, UCM announces the hiring of Joseph Kremer as assistant vice president for major gifts. Most recently, Kremer has been serving as director of regional giving for The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, CT, and was instrumental in generating several large gifts.
Proven Record of Success
“I am looking forward to working with Joe,” said Larry Cowan, UCM vice president for advancement and executive director of the UCM Foundation. “He has a proven track record at securing significant major gifts, is highly respected in the profession on a national level, and brings a breadth of leadership experiences that will serve the institution well as we move forward with our fundraising efforts.”
Selection Concludes Nationwide Search
Kremer’s selection for the job concluded a four-month national search. Cowan noted that fundraisers at colleges and universities are in high demand.
He stressed, “In this highly competitive market, we are extremely fortunate to have an individual of this caliber joining our team."
Kremer said he is excited to take on his new responsibilities. He begins work Aug. 1.
“My family and I look forward to our upcoming move to the Warrensburg community and my work with the University of Central Missouri,” Kremer said. “There is great enthusiasm and momentum at the university, and I am very pleased to help this fine institution do even more for its talented and deserving students.”
Varied Background in Development
Kremer has worked for The Hotchkiss School since August 2005. It is an elite, independent preparatoryschool, which was founded in 1891, and serves students in grade nine through 12 and a small number of postgraduates who come from across the United States and 24 foreign countries. Kremer has contributed to the school’s successful fundraising efforts, securing more than $12 million in gifts and commitments so far in Fiscal Year 2008. Prior to beginning work at The Hotchkiss School, Kremer had successful fundraising stints as associate director of major gifts at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY, where he secured nearly $1.8 million in gifts and commitments during his service from 2004 to 2005. He joined that institution after serving as the assistant director of external affairs and development for State University of New York at New Paltz.
Joining UCM Development Team
As assistant vice president for major gifts at UCM, Kremer will be responsible for the identification cultivation, and solicitation of major donors and work closely and collaboratively with the vice president, president, senior administrators, and foundation. He will supervise, train, and strategically plan the priorities for UCM development officers, including planned giving. He will assist the vice president for advancement in providing leadership in capital or endowment projects; identifying donors, determining and implementing solicitation strategies for each major donor; and will work closely with the vice president regarding any future campaign efforts.
Kremer earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Hamilton College and a master’s degree in educational psychology from Florida State University.
He and his wife, Julie, are active in community volunteer work and service. They are the parents of two children, Olivia and Nathaniel.
