A University of Central Missouri alumna who is the first woman to serve as president of Harris-Stowe State University and a UCM leader who is making a difference in the lives of active duty military students, veterans, and military dependents were recipients of annual awards presented by the Student Government Association on April 16. The awards ceremony took place at the Read and Relax area on the ground floor of the James C. Kirkpatrick Library. Harris-Stowe’s 21st President, Dr. Latonia Collins Smith, received the James C. Kirkpatrick Excellence in Governance Award and UCM’s Director of Military and Veteran Services, Courtney Swoboda, was presented the Walter Hicklin Excellence in Service Award.

The award recipients were announced on April 11 during the 84th annual Who’s Who recognition ceremony in the Elliott Student Union.
April 16, 2024An opportunity made possible by collaborative efforts that include the University of Central Missouri, 20 educators who teach grades 7-12 at the area surrounding Fort Scott National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kansas participated in a professional development seminar on April 4 which enabled them to uncover information to document the life stories of African American Civil War veterans who are interred at the cemetery.
April 16, 2024University of Central Missouri Theatre and Dance and UCM Music premiere Duke Ellington’s “Sacred Concert” at the James L. Highlander Theatre at 7:30 p.m. April 18-20 and at 2 p.m. April 21. Tickets to the event are available now, and are free to students with valid UCM ID and to active duty military, veterans, and military families with military ID presented at the Box Office. The matinee on April 21 is a pay-what-you-can event.
April 15, 2024Following up its first place finish the past two years, the University of Central Missouri sales team in the Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies was edged out by the University of Georgia and took second place in the 2024 King’s Hawaiian Sales Competition. This competitive event was hosted by the University of Kansas School of Business April 5-6.

April 09, 2024Donavan Hoyes, a junior accounting major from Sweet Springs, has received the top honor in an annual program that recognizes exemplary student employees at the University of Central Missouri. Hoyes received the Student Employee of the Year award in the ceremony conducted on April 8 by UCM’s Office of Human Resources.
April 09, 2024Former longtime University of Central Missouri Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, the late Jerry Hughes, will be posthumously inducted into the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Hall of Fame as part of the 2024 enshrinement class, the conference office announced Thursday, April 4.
