UCM Restructures Red and Black Scholarship Program to Help More Students to Gain Access to Higher Education

Consistent with its strong commitment to ensure higher education is accessible and affordable, the University of Central Missouri has announced the restructuring of its Red and Black Scholarship program to extend its reach and improve its financial impact on a greater number of incoming freshmen for the 2023-2024 academic year.

While Scholarships are Awarded, Audience Reminded MLK Dream Lives On

In honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., members of the University of Central Missouri and the local community came together Jan. 22 to award scholarships to five UCM students at an event that also included recognition of local art students, and remarks from a UCM alumnus whose personal story demonstrates how King’s dream for others continues today.

Toriano Porter, an author, journalist and public speaker who studied journalism and creative writing at the University of Central Missouri, will return to his alma mater Tuesday, Jan. 21, to present the keynote remarks at the 2020 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Freedom Scholarship Dinner. The dinner is a highlight of a celebration that includes activities in honor of King.

Duncans Make It Count in Son's Honor by Helping UCM Veterans

Dale and Megan Duncan recently presented a $7,500 gift to UCM from the Spencer C. Duncan Make It Count Foundation. The Duncans stopped by the Military and Veterans Success Center in early December to present the check to UCM President Roger Best, with members of Military and Veteran Services and the UCM Alumni Foundation also in attendance.

UCM Initiates A+ Recognition and Dual Credit Scholarships Effective for Fall 2020

Providing a financial lift to high school graduates who are entering college for the first time, the University of Central Missouri is implementing the A+ Recognition Scholarship and the UCM Dual Credit Scholarship. The first awards will be available for the 2020 fall enrollment cycle.

In a ceremony titled “One Dream, One Nation: Moving Forward Together” a crowd of about 260 people learned about Martin Luther King Jr.’s impact as a civil rights leader while also celebrating three students who will realize their dreams for a college education as recipients of University of Central Missouri scholarships in King’s name.
