WARRENSBURG, MO (Feb. 29, 2008) – The University of Central Missouri’s Mock Trial Team placed fourth out of 16 teams at the American Mock Trial Association regional competition Feb. 22-23 at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law, earning a trip to silver national competition at Northwestern University in Waukegan, Ill., March 14-16.
In addition to the team showing, team member Zach Harvey received the top attorney award.
Team members participating in the event were Adam Sommer, a junior political science major from Warrenton; Harvey, a senior criminal justice major from Marshall; Angela Dudley, a senior criminal justice major from Kansas City; Justin Hauser, a sophomore English major from Leeton; Josh Wiseman, a junior criminal justice major from Raymore; Nathan Davis, a sophomore political science major from St. Louis; Ernie Ueligger, a senior criminal justice major from Bunceton; and Darren Doherty, a sophomore political science major from Gravois Mills.
Team coaches are Doug Harris, Warrensburg attorney and adjunct instructor, and Jim Staab, professor and chair of the UCM Department of Political Science.
The UCM team ended the competition in a three-way tie for second place with St. Louis University and Washington University, with each team claiming a 6-2 win-loss record. Final rankings were determined by computing the competitive strength of the teams against which each school competed during the four rounds of competition. UCM competed against teams from the University of Iowa, Truman State University, and Washington University.
