WARRENSBURG, MO (Feb. 7, 2014) – The Missouri National Guard will host a welcome home ceremony for the 1-135th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, at the University of Central Missouri Multipurpose Building.
The battalion, which draws soldiers from throughout Missouri, deployed in March 2013 to support Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan as part of an aviation task force comprised of 37 aircraft of mixed mission design series. While in Afghanistan, the task force operated as part of a unique combat structure consisting of National Guard and active component soldiers working side-by-side with NATO Allies from Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Mongolia, Armenia, Finland and Latvia.
The battalion, which is headquartered at Whiteman Air Force Base, executed a total of 8,600 flight hours in support of the people of Afghanistan in order to provide a safe and secure environment for their future.
Family, friends, and community members are encouraged to attend the welcome home ceremony at UCM. This is the second time the university has hosted these soldiers. The Multipurpose Building provided the ceremonial setting as the 1-135th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion prepared for deployment March 24, 2013.
