WARRENSBURG - 1/16/2007- Construction and technology crews have been busy creating a new, expanded space for UCM's educational facility in Lee's Summit. With the move completed, UCM - Summit Center (CSC) invites the public to view the 40,000-square-foot facility at the Summit Technology campus, 850 NW Chipman Road, Lee's Summit.
Relocation Doubles Size of Facility
UCM's Office of Alumni Relations will host an open house Friday, Jan. 26, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The public is invited to join, faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends in touring the facility, which was relocated within the Summit Technology Campus in late December and early January. The relocation will vastly improve visibility and access to classes at CSC.
Third Expansion Since 2001
CSC previously was housed in the northeast portion of the facility, and underwent two expansions at that location since it opened in 2001 in order to serve the growing demand for classroom space. It is the university's primary off-campus educational facility, and is one of several educational outreach activities that UCM has initiated in the metropolitan area.
Room for Future Expansion
Carolyn O'Keefe, site director at CSC, said the university is taking advantage of an opportunity provided by Townsend Capital, owner of the Summit Technology Campus, to relocate and double the size of its facilities. CSC previously occupied about 20,000 square feet. In addition, the center will feature wireless Internet capabilities for students and provide ample room to expand classes and programs for the next five to 10 years.
Annual Growth Continues
The university is enjoying the excellent response to program offerings at CSC, which has proved to be convenient for students. The number of course offerings at CSC has increased from 24 in 2001 to approximately 100 classes being offered for spring 2007. With a record spring 2006 enrollment, the university has enjoyed a 25 percent growth in students annually at CSC since it first began offering classes.
