WARRENSBURG, MO (March 29, 2016) – The Performing Arts Series and the Department of Music        at the University of Central Missouri present the Afiara String Quartet at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 3, in Hart Recital Hall. The concert is the final performance in the 2015-16 PAS Guest Artist Series.

Afiara String Quartet
The Afiara String Quartet

After residencies at The Juilliard School and San Francisco State University, the Afiara Quarter currently is the Fellowship Quartet at the Royal Conservatory of Music. This award-winning quartet has performed throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia; at such venues as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Lincoln Center, Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.; London's Wigmore Hall, Austria's Esterhazy Palace, Munich’s Prinz Regenten Theatre, Amsterdam’s Muziekgebouw, and the Royal Library in Copenhagen.

Their relentless pursuit of beauty and discovery is documented in more than 25 commissions of new music, new educational outreach initiatives for school children funded by the Ontario Arts Council, and projects with jazz virtuoso Uri Caine, Latin Grammy Award-winning producer Javier Limon, and ground-breaking scratch DJ Kid Koala. Their Juno Award-nominated CD, “Spin Cycle,” has been named one of the Top 10 classical albums of 2015 by Forbes.

The Office of the Performing Arts at UCM, in partnership with the Department of Music, will bring The Afiara Quartet to Warrensburg for a three-day residency as part of the PAS Arts Education Outreach Program, with activities to include workshops, demonstrations, lectures and masterclasses with college, high school and elementary students.

Tickets for the Sunday evening concert are $3 for students and $7 for adults and are available at the Central Tickets Box Office in Administration 100 from noon-5 p.m. weekdays, by calling 660-543-8888, online at ucmpas.com, and one hour prior to show time at the venue.

Financial assistance for this project has been provided in part by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
