Contact: Mike Greife
WARRENSBURG, MO (April 10, 2015) – – The Performing Arts Series and Department of Music at the University of Central Missouri will present the UCM Opera Theatre production of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 17-18, in Hendricks Hall.  The performance is part of the Performing Arts Series Premier Series, which showcases the best of UCM student and faculty talent.

“The Magic Flute” is a mystical story about the transformative power of love. A young prince discovers a flute with magic and a girl who will make him whole. Mozart’s comical tale draws you into a world of magic fantasy, complete with an angry queen, a beautiful princess, and a lovesick bird catcher.

The performance will feature the talents of UCM Opera Theater students with piano accompaniment and will be sung in English.

“The Magic Flute” will be under the direction of Matthew Haney, a well-known stage director and UCM faculty member.  Haney has served as the principal stage director of Rimrock Opera, including productions of “Rigoletto” and “The Crucible.”  Other credits include work on productions for the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Mobile Opera, The University of Kansas, William Jewell College, and the Music Academy International in Mezzano, Italy.

Tickets for “The Magic Flute” are available through the Central Tickets Box Office in Administration 100B, by calling 660-543-8888, online and one hour prior to showtime.
