UCM Performing Arts Series Presents The World Percussion Group in Concert

Contact: Mike Greife
WARRENSBURG, MO (March 1, 2016) – The Performing Arts Series and the Department of Music at the University of Central Missouri present The World Percussion Group–Directed by Maraca2! at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, in Hendricks Hall. The concert is part of the PAS Guest Artist Series.

The World Percussion Group Maraca2
Members of the World Percussion Group will perform March 9 at UCM as part of the Performing Arts Series Guest Artist Series.

Tim Palmer and Jason Huxtable created Maraca2, now considered one of the world’s leading percussion duos, while attending the Birmingham Conservatoire in England, where they are now honorary members and help tutor percussion students. Maraca2 has performed regularly at festivals and concert halls around the globe, inspiring hundreds of young percussionists to pursue a career within the percussive arts.

Palmer and Huxtable created the idea of The World Percussion Group in 2014, providing an international platform for percussionists of the next generation. Members of WPG were selected from hundreds of applicants worldwide and represent the very best young percussion players today. The inaugural 2016 U.S. tour kicked off in Las Vegas in February and includes presentations, clinics, lessons, performances, and masterclasses with a touring ensemble delivering an extremely high quality ‘mobile percussion festival’ to the USA educational market.

The Office of the Performing Arts at UCM, in partnership with the Department of Music, will bring The World Percussion Group and Maraca2 to Warrensburg for a 3-day residency as part of the PAS Arts Education Outreach Program, with activities that will include workshops, demonstrations, lectures and masterclasses with college and high school students.

Tickets for the Wednesday evening concert start at $10, with discounts available. Tickets may be purchased at the Central Tickets Box Office in Administration 100 from noon-5 p.m., by calling 660-543-8888, online at ucmpas.com, and one hour prior to show time. UCM Student Rush tickets will be available for $5 starting at 7 p.m. at Hendricks Hall prior to the concert.

Financial assistance for this project has been provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
