WARRENSBURG, MO (Feb. 16, 2009) - UCM's Department of Theatre presents Take Me Out by Richard Greenberg as the spring mainstage production. The play, under the direction of John Wilson, associate professor of theatre and performance specialist for the department, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18-21, with a 2 p.m. matinee performance Feb. 22. All performances will be presented in UCM's James L. Highlander Theatre.

Darren Lemming, the star center fielder of the world-champion New York Empires, is so convinced of his popularity that when he casually announces he’s gay, he assumes the news will be readily accepted by everyone. It isn’t. When the slipping Empires call up the young new sensation, Shane Mungitt, to close their games, the reaction to Lemming's news turns to violence. Take Me Out strips America’s pastime down to insights about baseball, masculinity, and identity in the 21st century.

UCM students featured in the production are Darius Hagens as Darren Lemming; Brian Sauer as Kippy Sunderstrom; Peter Macy as Mason Marzac; Jeremy Frazier as Shane Mungitt; Tanzy Moore as Davey Battle; Justin Wilson as Toddy Koovitz; Joe Burkard as Jason Chenier; Micah Cruse as Martinez; Mario Garciduenas as Rodriguez; James A. Patten as Skipper/William R. Danziger; Michael Wilson as Takeshi Kawabata; and Jacob Ritter as a vocal soloist.

Tickets are available through the theatre box office in Wood 128 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays, or by calling the box office at 660-543-8811. Tickets are $12 for general public, $10 for UCM faculty, staff, and senior citizens, and $7 for students. Opening night, Feb. 18, will be Military Appreciation Night. Members of the Armed Services will be charged student prices with a valid military I.D. Children under the age of five will not be admitted. This play contains adult content. For additional information contact the Department of Theatre at 660-543-4020.
