Season Tickets Available for Exciting Theatre Season

Season tickets now are available for the UCM Department of Theatre’s exciting 2008-2009 season, which offers five diverse and exciting shows.

Come to the Cabaret!

The Department of Theatre joins forces with the Department of Music to present the award-winning musical Cabaret as the season mainstage opener.  Directed by Richard Herman, with musical direction by Lisa Fredenburgh, the story of Sally Bowles and her adventures in pre-war Berlin come to the Highlander Theatre stage at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 8-11, with a matinee performance planned for 2 p.m. Oct. 12.

For a Young Audience

An original children’s play, To the Rescue by Joel Moses and T.W. Rothwell, will be presented Oct 29-30 and Nov. 1 in Hendricks Hall in conjunction with the UCM Performing Arts Series. Follow the adventures of young Samantha as she finds the courage to rescue her grandfather from the monsters living under her bed!  Matinees are available, and groups are welcome.  Tickets for these performances are available only through the Performing Arts series box office at (660) 543-8888.

Humor and Relationships

The hilarious comedy Beyond Therapy will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Nov 11-15 and Nov. 18-20 in the Black Box Theatre in Nickerson Hall, with a matinee planned for 2 p.m. Nov. 16.

Written by Christopher Durang and directed by guest director Sidonie Garrett, the play follows the hapless romance of Bruce and Prudence, who meet a woman after placing personal ads at the advice of their therapists.

Examining Society

The spring season opens with the mainstage production of Take Me Out by Richard Greenburg, directed by John Wilson. Darrell Leming, the star centerfielder of the New York Empires, meets challenges head-on after his announcement that he is gay is not accepted as well as he thought it would be. The performance is planned for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18-21 in the Highlander Theatre, with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Feb. 22.

Greek Drama

Herman directs the Department of Theatre’s mainstage performance of Electra by Sophocles, which will be presented at 7:30 p.m. April 22-25 in Highlander Theatre, with a matinee at 2 p.m. April 26.  The passions of jealousy and revenge are as relevant today as when this drama was penned 2,400 years ago.

Season tickets are $40 for the general public, $35 for UCM faculty/staff & senior citizens and $25 for students. Individual performance tickets for Cabaret will go on sale Oct. 1 through the Department of Theatre box office.
