UCM Faculty Member Honored as MoEFACS Post-Secondary Teacher of the Year

WARRENSBURG, MO – Krystle Gremaud, assistant professor in Career and Technology Education at the University of Central Missouri, has been selected to receive the 2019 Post-Secondary Teacher of the Year award from Missouri Educators of Family and Consumer Sciences and Human Services (MoEFACS).

According to MoEFACS, the Post-Secondary Teacher of the Year award recognizes the finest career and technical teachers at the post-secondary level who have demonstrated innovation in the classroom, commitment to their students and dedication to the improvement of CTE (Career and Technical Education) in their institutions and communities.

Gremaud has served as the coordinator for the Career and Technical programs at UCM for the past five years. Prior to joining the university, she taught 10 years in middle school and high school Family and Consumer Sciences classes, advising FCCLA chapters, coaching various teams, and sponsoring student groups. Gremaud is currently the lead faculty member for Family and Consumer Science Education at UCM.

A former UCM student, Ashley Brandehoff, stated, “Mrs. Gremaud’s enthusiasm and constant attention to my specific education program only helped drive me to want to complete my degree.  My success in the program was always at the forefront of her mind.  She made sure I had all the tools I needed to successfully graduate with my degree.”

Active in her professional field outside the classroom, Gremaud regularly makes presentations at national and state career and technical conferences to advance the skills and knowledge of current educators.
 
Bart Washer, chair of the School of Professional Education and Leadership at UCM, noted, “Krystle contributes to the CTE profession in many different ways: at the local, state, and national levels.  She is active in her professional organizations through leadership/board level activities, in conference planning responsibilities, state and national presentations, and grant work.  One of her strongest contributions to the CTE profession is the way she constantly asks her students ‘Why?’”

She has encouraged her university students to be active in a variety of community events including support of Ronald McDonald charity, Cinderella Dress Exchange, BraCoutre, and Financial Peace University.  Getting involved in organizations that help others, to date Gremaud has helped raise over $1 million for cancer patients in the Kansas City area.

Gremaud will be recognized July 24, 2019 at the MoEFACS Awards and Recognition Luncheon and Awards Ceremony. In addition to being recognized in July, the Missouri Educators of Family and Consumer Sciences will be forwarding her application on to the Missouri Association of Career & Technical Educators (MoACTE), where she will be competing for the Post-Secondary Teacher of the Year Award there as well.
