Vaughn Named to Lead Missouri Graduate Deans Association

WARRENSBURG, MO (April 10, 2008) – Joseph Vaughn, interim assistant provost for research and dean of the Graduate School at UCM, recently was elected president of the Missouri Graduate Deans Association (MOGDA) at the group’s annual meeting in St. Louis.

Careers in Law Enforcement and Higher Education

Vaughn joined the UCM faculty as an assistant professor of criminal justice in 1987 after a career in law enforcement as chief deputy sheriff for Camden County, Mo. He was named interim assistant provost and dean of UCM’s Graduate School in December, 2006, after serving as chair of the Department of Criminal Justice since 2004 and also served as faculty director at the Maastricht Center for Transatlantic Study in Maastricht, the Netherlands, from February to July, 2006. He earned a Ph.D. degree in criminal justice Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.

Communication and Collaboration Between Graduate Schools

MOGDA is an organization of public and private institutions of higher education in Missouri accredited to offer graduate work by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The group provides a forum for communication and collaboration among graduate schools in the state, planning and implementing various mechanisms, consortia, and resource sharing to the benefit and best interests of graduate education and the people of Missouri. MOGDA also serves in an advisory capacity to the Coordinating Board for Higher Education and other state agencies or commissions on matters relating to graduate education.
