Contact: Jeff Murphy
WARRENSBURG, MO (Nov. 6, 2015) – While the University of Central Missouri’s Office of Military and Veteran Services works with local veterans organizations to help plan for Veterans Day Nov. 11 in the Warrensburg community, two special activities also will take place on campus to honor university veterans and others who have served their country.

Activities at UCM include the second annual Military and Veteran Appreciation Breakfast for UCM faculty, staff and students who are veterans or are currently serving in the military. The event is planned for 7 to 9:30 a.m. in the Ellis Dining Center, and will feature special remarks at 8 a.m. by Deborah Curtis, provost-chief learning officer at UCM. The breakfast is free for campus employees and students who have served in the military, but all must present a veteran or current military ID. Other interested individuals are welcome to attend, however the cost will be $4.99 at the door. Sodexo, UCM’s dining services provider, is helping to make this event possible.

In cooperation with the American Red Cross, the university also will host the fourth annual Military Appreciation Blood Drive in Elliott Student Union, Rooms 238 and 240, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. UCM is competing with the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg to earn a traveling trophy for the most donations provided during the event.

Appointments for the blood drive are preferred, however, walk-ins are welcome. Donors will receive free pizza and a coupon for a free taco.  To register in advance, visit redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code: UCMO; call 660-543-4007; or email mueller@ucmo.edu.
