WARRENSBURG - 04/13/2007 - The UCM Department of Music will host the world premiere performance by the UCM Wind Ensemble of a major new work for wind band at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 20 in Hendricks Hall.
The Heritage of Whiteman Air Force Base Honored in Music
"Spirit" was composed by retired Master Sgt. Aldo Rafael Forte, staff composer and arranger for the U.S. Air Force "Heritage of America" Band at Langley Air Force Base, VA. The work honors the story of 2nd Lt. George A. Whiteman and history of Whiteman Air Force Base, as well as the imagery of the grace, beauty and power of the B-2 Stealth bomber, presented in five short movements.
Composer to Spend Week on Campus
Forte also will be on the UCM campus during the week preceding the performance to work with the wind ensemble and give guest lectures and master classes in the Department of Music.

Also included in the program will be a consortium premiere of “The Waters of Speech are Silent,” a new composition for wind band by Joanne Metcalf, a native of Fulton, MO, who is now on the faculty at the Lawrence Conservatory in Appleton, WI.
Soloing with the wind ensemble on a Concerto for Tuba will be Jon Gregory, adjunct music faculty members. Also performing will be the Warrensburg High School Symphonic Band.
