Federal Loan Requirements and Servicing Information

The following information and links are provided for students and parents that plan to accept a federal loan to pay towards educational costs while attending UCM.

Entrance Counseling (Required)

If you're a first-time Federal Stafford (Student) Loan borrower at the University of Central Missouri, you're required to complete Entrance Counseling at Student Loans before your first loan disbursement can credit your UCM account. During this interactive on-line counseling (which only takes about 15 minutes to complete) you'll receive comprehensive information about the Stafford Loan program,your rights and responsibilities as a borrower, and some useful tips and tools for managing your educational expenses and repayment of your loan. Entrance counseling only needs to be completed once.

Stafford (Student) Loan - Entrance Counseling

Using your student Federal Student Aid ID number (FSA ID), log into Student Loans. Click on the link that says "Complete Counseling" in the center section of the page. Select the button that says "Start Entrance Counseling." Keep in mind that the session must be completed in one sitting; you will not be able to save and return. Once you successfully complete counseling, FSA will email confirmation to you. UCM will receive electronic confirmation, which will be updated in MyCentral within 2 business days.

Transfer Students: If you have completed Entrance Counseling for another school, you may send electronic confirmation to UCM by logging into Student Loans. Locate the "View Completed Counseling" option from the left-hand navigation pane. The last column will display a "Select School" button. Click, then follow the prompts to notify UCM. Please note: Master Promissory Notes are not transferable.

PLUS (Parent) Loan - PLUS Counseling -

PLUS Counseling is required only if your initial application for the Parent PLUS loan was denied, an appeal was submitted and subsequently approved. Using your parent Federal Student Aid ID number (FSA ID), log into Student Loans. Click on the link that says "Complete Counseling" in the center section of the page. Select the button that says "Start PLUS Counseling" then choose the option for "Parent of an eligible dependent undergraduate student(s)."

Keep in mind that the session must be completed in one sitting; you will not be able to save and return. Once you successfully complete counseling, FSA will email confirmation to you as well as UCM.

Parents of Transfer Students: Please note: Master Promissory Notes are not transferable, if you have completed a PLUS application for another school, you must apply again and choose UCM as the recipient.

PLUS (Graduate Student) Loan - Entrance Counseling

Using your student Federal Student Aid ID number (FSA ID), log into Student Loans. Click on the link that says "Complete Counseling" in the center section of the page. Select the button that says "Start PLUS Counseling" then choose the option for "Graduate/professional student."

Keep in mind that the session must be completed in one sitting; you will not be able to save and return. Once you successfully complete counseling, FSA will email confirmation to you as well as UCM.

Exit Counseling (Required)

Exit Counseling is required of all Stafford (Student) Loan borrowers before they graduate or otherwise cease attending UCM on at least a half-time babis.  Information about your loan repayment options, as well as your rights and responsibilities is provided during this interactive on-line counseling, which takes only about 30 minutes to complete

You may also wish to visit the U.S. Department of Education's website, which provides complete details about your repayment options, examples of monthly payment schedules for different types of loans, and useful information about how to manage your loan obligations.

Stafford (Student) Loan - Exit Counseling

Using your student Federal Student Aid ID number (FSA ID), log into Student Loans. Click on the link that says "Complete Counseling" in the center section of the page. Select the button that says "Start Exit Counseling." Keep in mind that the session must be completed in one sitting; you will not be able to save and return. Once you successfully complete counseling, FSA will email confirmation to you. UCM will receive electronic confirmation, which will be updated in MyCentral within 2 business days.

Perkins (Student) Loan - Exit Counseling

Please visit the Perkins Loan Servicing and Payments page to complete Exit Counseling by clicking on the "Access Account" button.

Master Promissory Note (Required)

If you're a first-time Federal Stafford (Student) Loan borrower at the University of Central Missouri, you're required to complete a Master Promissory Note at Student Loans before your first loan disbursement can credit your UCM account.

Stafford (Student) Loan - Master Promissory Note

Using your student Federal Student Aid ID number (FSA ID), log into Student Loans. Click on the link that says "Complete a Master Promissory Note" in the center section of the page. Select the button that says "Complete Subsidized/Unsubsidized MPN." Once you successfully complete the promissory note, FSA will email confirmation to you. UCM will receive electronic confirmation, which will be updated in MyCentral within 2 business days.

Transfer Students: Master Promissory Notes are not transferable from a previous school, please log into Student Loans to complete a new promissory note and transfer your Entrance Loan Counseling to UCM.

National Student Loan Data System

Federal loan debt may be accessed using the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS). NSLDS provides contact information for your loan servicer, loan amount, interest rate and more.
