Federal Loan Requirements and Servicing Information

The following information and links are provided for students and parents that plan to accept a federal loan to pay towards educational costs while attending UCM.

Entrance Counseling (Required)

If you're a first-time Federal Stafford (Student) Loan borrower at the University of Central Missouri, you're required to complete Entrance Counseling at Student Loans before your first loan disbursement can credit your UCM account. During this interactive on-line counseling (which only takes about 20 minutes to complete) you'll receive comprehensive information about the Stafford Loan program,your rights and responsibilities as a borrower, and some useful tips and tools for managing your educational expenses and repayment of your loan. Entrance Counseling and a Loan Agreement (Master Promissory Note) typically only need to be completed once.

Transfer Students: If you have completed Entrance Counseling for another school, you may send electronic confirmation to UCM by logging into Student Loans and following the instructions to "Notify Additional School."

PLUS (Parent) Loan - PLUS Counseling -

PLUS Counseling is required only if your initial application for the Parent PLUS loan was denied, an appeal was submitted and subsequently approved. View these instructions for the Parent PLUS Loan to learn how to access and navigate the Student Loans website.

PLUS (Graduate Student) Loan - Entrance Counseling

Exit Counseling (Required)

Exit Counseling is required of all Stafford (Student) Loan borrowers before they graduate or otherwise cease attending UCM on at least a half-time basis.  Information about your loan repayment options, as well as your rights and responsibilities is provided during this interactive on-line counseling, which takes only about 30 minutes to complete. You may also wish to visit the U.S. Department of Education's website, which provides complete details about your repayment options, examples of monthly payment schedules for different types of loans, and useful information about how to manage your loan obligations.

Perkins (Student) Loan - Exit Counseling

Please visit the Perkins Loan Servicing and Payments page to complete Exit Counseling by clicking on the "Access Account" button.

Master Promissory Note (Required)

If you're a first-time Federal Stafford (Student) Loan borrower at the University of Central Missouri, you're required to complete a Master Promissory Note at Student Loans before your first loan disbursement can credit your UCM account.

National Student Loan Data System

Federal loan debt may be accessed using the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS). NSLDS provides contact information for your loan servicer, loan amount, interest rate and more.
