Sustainability: Climate Commitment
The University of Central Missouri is committed to reducing its impact on the environment, greenhouse gas emissions, and overall carbon footprint. Each member of the UCM community has the ability to positively contribute towards this commitment.
UCM’s climate commitment is detailed and regularly updated in the Climate Action Plan. This plan was developed by a committee consisting of a cross representation of the campus community, including students, faculty, senior administration, and operations. Many of the elements in the Climate Action Plan are modeled after the USGBC Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Existing Building template. The sustainability initiatives presented have short and long term action plans. The committee’s action plans will::
Serve as a catalyst for short term and future “Green” initiatives across campus
Provide measurable and achievable sustainability goals
Document achievements towards reduction of UCM’s carbon footprint
American College and University President’s Climate Commitment- ACUPCC
The presidents and chancellors of the American College and University President’s Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) believe that exerting leadership in addressing climate disruption is an integral part of the mission of higher education. Addressing climate disruption will also stabilize and reduce long-term energy costs, attract excellent students and faculty, entice new sources of funding, and increase support of alumni, business, and local communities.
