With a professional career spanning more than 20 years, Michael Benson has worked in production, artistic, and supervisory positions for a multitude of theatres across the nation. As a scenic designer, his work has been seen in productions by the American Heartland Theatre (Kansas City, MO), Pittsburgh Musical Theatre (Pittsburgh, PA), Cuyahoga Community College (Parma, OH), Penn State School of Music (University Park, PA), and Pennsylvania Centre Stage (State College, PA). As a Technical Director, he has had the opportunity to work for Northern Stage (White River Junction, VT), Pittsburgh Musical Theatre, Cuyahoga Community College, and John Carroll University (University Heights, OH). In addition, he has worked for De La Guarda (Las Vegas, NV), Shakespeare & Company (Lenox, MA), and Double M Enterprises, LLC (Winston-Salem, NC). He received his Masters of Fine Arts from Penn State University in 2011, where his work garnered him a Creative Achievement Award from the College of Art and Architecture, and the Anne Gibson Award for Professional Development in Theatre Design and Technology from the School of Theatre. His teaching interests include Scene Design, Stagecraft, Computer Modeling and Digital Imaging for the Theatre, Scenic Painting, and Period Research. Professional memberships include USITT, and ATHE.
