Secondary and Middle School

The Master of Arts in Teaching is an advanced degree designed to provide a base of sound theoretical and practical pedagogical knowledge for post-baccalaureate students interested in the teaching profession in middle or secondary school settings. This degree program is offered through the Department of Educational Foundation & Literacy. The coursework provides candidates with the information and skills in best practice instruction to become teachers by addressing the Missouri Standards for Professional Educators (MoSPE) and the Initial Licensure/Post Baccalaureate (IL/PB) National Standards for NCATE/CAEP.

Requirements for Acceptance into the Program

In order to enroll in the MAT, you must have an undergraduate degree with a 2.75 or above. No test is required prior to enrollment. Your Certification Plan will be determined by your past coursework and your desired area of certification. Two concentrations are available: Middle School and Secondary.

Although the MAT is available as a fully online program, a selection of the courses can also be taken face-to-face at the UCM Summit Center.
