Overview:

Undergraduate research and creative projects exemplify UCM's pillars of engaged learning and future-focused academics. The Undergraduate Research and Creative Project Mentor Award honors the vital role that faculty play in the development of these works. The award recognizes one faculty member's contribution to undergraduate scholarship/creative work and is given out at the annual Scholars Symposium and Creative Achievement Day.

Eligibility:

Faculty in any department who directed one or more of the following in the past year (April 2017 to April 2018): McNair project, Scholars Symposium and Creative Achievement Day presentation, Undergraduate Scholars Grant recipient, and/or Honors Project.

Award:

Recognition at the Scholars Symposium and Creative Achievement Day

Criteria:

Faculty nominees will be evaluated on the following:

  • Mentorship of student research and/or creative projects that demonstrates strong commitment to engaged learning and future-focused academics
  • Promotion of a culture that supports undergraduate research and/or creative projects at department, college, and/or university-levels
  • Incorporation of undergraduate research and/or creative projects into the classroom and/or ongoing faculty research

Selection process:

  • Students must nominate faculty by Friday, February 16, 2017 at 5 pm using this form (one faculty nominee per student)
  • Nominated faculty will then provide additional application materials including, but not limited to, their curriculum vita and statement of undergraduate research
  • Selection of recipient by University Research, Honors College Advisory, Institutional Review Board, and The Institutional Animal Care and Use committees
